The blade of this hunter is 5.5" and is 1080 & 15N20. When I cut & rotated the pieces in the stack of 240 layer, it looks like some ended up close to 600 layers while some stayed at 240. Interesting pattern. What do you think?

[Sorry, but this is the best my little camera will do.]

good looking knife Gary. The Damascus looks good to. It is a little hard to see in the picture but I know what you are talking about with these cameras I have a terrible time getting good close ups.

good lookin piece Gary:thumbup: good looking damascus:thumbup:

more light on the knife will help with your picture. It's hard to get Damascus and Hamon's in photographs.

Thanks, guys. Being a newby at damascus, I'm not sure why this piece ended up with the difference in layers within the piece. I stacked it like a "w" pattern and compressed it with my press with flat dies. You would think that the layers would stay constant this way. Any ideas why the difference in compression when I wasn't trying for it?
