Hello everyone, recently I’ve found a Damascus fighter that I’m really considering. But, I don’t want to hang this one in the back of the safe, but rather put it to work. What are your opinions on a Damascus fighter?

:) No reason that a good fighting knife couldn't be Damascus . But there is a lot of cheap , crappy stuff made for wall hanging that will tend to delaminate and fracture with any serious use . Expect good quality to be expensive .

So you get in knife fights that often? ——-Damascus, or any other steel only has to work for a few slices & a stab for that Application! If it breaks and you Won, Take his! If you didn’t win, your opponent can have yours..

;) Hey guys , give OP a break ! Most combat and fighting knives are never used for actual fighting . But they do get used in fighting practice and for all kind of utility chores .:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Historically accurate - for a long time the best knives know to the West were damascus. Of course it it isn't real damascus but some imprinting, it will scratch off.

Damascus is simply layered carbon steel.
Carbon steel is tough, with ease of sharpening to a razor fine edge, so if manufactured by a reputable maker, it will definitely be a very useable blade steel for daily application.

My understanding (or lack thereof) is that original damascus was about performance, and not looks. Now, with the steels we have available, I doubt the need for damascus anything. Laminated, maybe, yes. But XXXlayer damascus, nope. Only for looks.

OK If your talking about a made in USA Damascus fighter, you are probably in the $500+ range. I've seen a few at knife shows & they would no doubt get the job done. If your talking about the "Damascus" knifes for $50 on Amazon, they are Pakistan made crap, but you could stab someone with it. The down side comes after the fight, which if you win, now have to explain the police & DA why your carry such an exotic weapon. Good luck. It's a piece of cake to demonize the killer who took such pride in his work that he carried around a very special knife made only for the best killers. If you plan to throw it away after the fight, you've made your life more expensive than necessary. Whatever. The heart want's what it wants. If you want one & it's well made, get it an enjoy.:)
