Hello

This knife was the first damascus piece made by new maker Eduardo Cunha - well, he is not exactly a new maker since he operates a small company that makes and sells benchmade knives for the local Gaucho market.
He has been hanging around Rodrigo Sfreddo´s shop a bit and I think it shows clearly on this knife style. By the way, the knife was made at Rodrigo´s shop and Rodrigo helped him to forge the damascus.

Great to see our "Brothers of the forge" in the Southern Hemisphere doing good and growing. The knife looks great. I love the gaucho style.

He is looking good, Ivan.
Are you going to be able to make it to the Blade show? If you are, what table do you have?
The picture is a little small for my old eyes to see but from what I "can" see, it is a very nicely made knife. I have been learning all I can about the forging process and design of the gaucho as it is definitely a very nice looking knife.

Thank you for your comments, gentlemen.
Bailey, our makers are developing quickly and there are more makers showing up every year - this is in large part due to Jerry´s workshop back in 2001, thuough it went much beyond our best guess.
Unfortunatelly, I won´t make it to this year´s Blade, Ray, but I am working hard to be there in 2006. Ricardo and the two Gauchos will be there, though. Their table is 2-D.
If you really want to learn more about this type of knife, you better plan a trip to Brazil - a good Gaucho styled barbecue will help a lot!

Ivan,
You have been reading my mind on the trip to Brazil. The only country that I have ever visited was Canada and that was a fantastic fishing trip I took in 1980. I am looking forward to visiting with Ricardo and Luciano again. They are indeed very special people. I am also trying to figure out how and when the trip to Brazil would be best made.
I would love to indulge in some gaucho style eating of barbecue. I will even bring my own blade. :)

Hello, Ray

If you want to come, I think the best would be to come for one of our shows, either the SPKS, in São Paulo, October 28, 29 and 30, or the Brasilia show, that was held in April this year but possibly will be held later in the year in 2006.
This way you can meet most Brazilian makers togheter and then after the show visit with some of them - of course, a trip to Tatuí is mandatory, so I can take you to the local distillery and also to some less important knife-related activities.:D
I can help you plan some outdoor activities as well and there is a lot for you to do if you like fishing.
It´s gonna be a trip you won´t forget, believe me!

The Sao Paulo would probably be the best but we are having the Knife Group Association custom knife show on the 12th and 13th of November. That would only leave me 2 weeks to get back and get things taken care of. Possible but would be a strain on traveling. I will have to play it by ear till it gets a lot closer. It does sound like it would be a very enjoyable trip. My wife hasn't been there either.
I will try to figure out when the best time would be for me, and it may be next spring.
Thank you for the gracious offer of your hospitality and I will look forward to the day I will be able to make it.
