Damascus Knifes

I am a new member and the site looks great. Given that I am new (about 20 minutes ago) I hesitate to post, however I have two Grandsons that have really taken a fancy to Damascus Knifes. I don't know much about them except they have a distinct look that appeals to me as well. I would like to ask if anyone on the forum can assist me in how you tell if they are of good quality, good USA materials, craftsman ship, and if the blades will hold their edges. I would like to thank anyone that responds that are able to set me on the correct course.
