I just got the June, 2003 issue of the Missouri Conservationist Magazine which is a small monthly publication put out by the Missouri Department of Conservation. Starting on page 15 is a 5 page article titled "Reviving an ancient art in Missouri" "Damascus Knives". Article was written by Bryan Hendricks, photographs by Cliff White, and features the damascus of Ron Duncan of Cairo, Missouri. Mr. Duncan will be at the Blade Show, stop by for a visit!

Ron is also going for his Journeyman Smith stamp this time. I sure hope he brings a copy of the article with him. I would if it was me. :)

Was just reading Blade Magazine and saw your name listed. Good luck to you in the cutting competition on June 14th!!

Thanks, Geobar
I will definitely need all the help I can get. All of the contestants have won or come close enough to get points to be eligible for it. It should be a well tended event at the show.
Thanks again and hope to see you there.

Sales wise, I sold one knife. Time wise, it was great just to be there. 2000 miles in 7 days of driving was a lot worse on my back than I had anticipated. It was still worth it. I got to see several of my good friends get their stamps and was able to stay up long enought to socialize a little.
I also got to stop in Little Rock, Arkansas on the way there and Mr. Bert Gaston was kind enough to give me my MS performance test (I passed this time) and visit with me for a little while. It was good of him to take time out from his work to do that for me and I appreciate it very much. I used a 500+ layer ladder pattern this time with bois d arc wood handles and the same 52100/15N20 mix of knife steels.
I am just now getting to be able to work a little in the shop and summer vacation is just about over (I teach). I learned my lesson on lifting anything HEAVY

Just wanted to thank you Geobar for posting this thread about the story that the MO Conservatin Dep. did on me making Damascus knives.
The responce from the people that read the artical has been great.
40 new knife orders and counting to date since the story came out. I wanted a little job security ever since I became a full time maker and now i sure have that. Thank's again for posting.
