Damascus Leek Delamination???

I have a damascus Leek that I recieved in November and yesterday I noticed that a small area on the top of the blade spine has started to delaminate!! I magnified it to make sure and it was a small lifting along a weld line. It is not much- just enough to catch a bit of skin. I am not too worried about it, just broke off the offending part and went on my way. But I will want to keep an eye on it in the future and wanted to know if anybody else has had this occur.

I totally missed this post.

I've been carrying mine for a while now, haven't seen that and I hope I don't see it either.

Is there any rust involved?

Please keep me informed if this occurs again. I now have a magnifier glass
out looking at mine.

Camera is not good enough to show what happened, and like I said the area involved was only large enough to just catch skin. There is no rust involved and the etching appears to be on the underside of where the metal separated. It is not a big deal as it does not affect the aesthetics nor does it affect usefulness and my opinion of it (I really like this knife). I only wanted to see if any others have experienced it and to let others know it may happen. Please note I am not trying to knock Kershaw or anything either as I have seen other threads about companies go in the wrong direction.

...I've had one or two damacus blades show de-lamination over the years...( not Kershaws )... It's almost inherent with the process used to make the steel. It's not common but it can show up. I have a "Dam Leek" myself and it shows no signs of the condition. With the one that I remember best...I actually sanded the area that was sorta lifting with something like 1200 wet/dry paper and removed that "icky" stuff and followed it with a muriatic acid etch to bring back the grain. I do NOT recommend doing this to your knife but just wanted to mention what I had done...( maybe through ignorance...:p )...If it's something you want taken care of I'm certain that Thomas W. will be more than happy to look 'er over and take care of it for ya. These are great knives from a great company...:)
