Damascus Leek Lock Question

I couldn't find an answer using the search feature so here goes:

I recently bought a damascus leek. I find the frame lock to be extremely difficult to close one handed. It is so difficult to close that after a three or four tries, my thumb starts to hurt. If my hand is slightly damp from sweat or water, it becomes impossible to close one handed. the knife locks up solid, but there seems to be a good deal of friction between the blade and the framelock. this friction isn't there on my other frame locks (bokers). I was just wondering if the lock is supposed to be like this.

Most are easier than this. I'd suggest two things.

First check the contact of the blade when closed. Does it appear wet? If so its got oil on it. This can cause it to stick terribly as you describe. Wipe it off. Open and close it a few times and check it again. If its wet again then there is an excess of oil on the inside.

If not, wipe it again anyway, and then with a #2 lead pencil paint some graphite from the lead by drawing all over the contact where the lock hits it. Then open and close it. See if it isn't easier.

This will not last indefinitely. It may stick again and require more but if so then you know its the knife and not some outiside influence.

You might also at this point after doing these simple checks want to send it in for a lock adjustment if it persists. Being stainless it will wear very very slowly.

thanks for the advice. the pencil trick helped a little, but not for long. i guess i will have to send it in if i want a permanent fix.

Thats what it sounds like. Its rare that you see your issue with a Kershaw. I'd suggest other things but you almost have to be a maker to know how to adjust them so I'd say just mail it to them and they will surely fix you up.

I didn't have this problem with any of mine.
As STR suggested, send it in to them and they will make it right.
