I just got my Damascus Leek today and I really like it, this is the first Damascus blade I have ever had and it arrived with some very slight dusting of rust on one side, I read on some sites that Damascus should be kept Oiled or it will rust due to the high carbon content, what kind of Oil that might be around the house will work?.....Olive oil?......Motor oil?.......I really don't want to shell out big bucks for some kind of Japanese clove oil I see mentioned elsewhere but is that really what I need?

Thanks for any info.

Any decent oil will work. Reapply it every so often.

Mineral oil would work fine, and it's food safe. I'd assume you have that around the house.

Sewing machine oil, motor oil, transmission fluid, whatever.Just spread a few drops out on the blade, rub it in ,and remove the excess.I was looking at one of those today.Good looking blade.
