Damascus lube?

What is the best lube / protectant for damascus which will not erase the etch. I've been using mineral oil. Which of these are bad: Rem oil, 3 in 1, WD40, Sentry Tough Glide.

Have you ever though about wax rather than oil? I've been using an automotive (Mother's Caranuba cleaner/wax) paste wax on my knives for several years now. I liked it so well that I now use it on my firearms too. It's not messy, doesn't draw dirt/grit like oils, and doesn't wipe off when you brush the item against something.

A wax of some sort is ok for Damascus, but the only product that I have had consistent luck with on high finished satin carbon blades (800 grit or higher) is Tuff-Cloth/Glide that has been allowed to properly dry.

Since this is the case, I have been using the Tuff Cloth for all carbon based blades. Wax is what I used to use, Ren wax in particular, but my faith in it is no longer immutable. I do use wax on wood handles.

For lubing damascus folder blades, I like White Lightning or Pedro's Dry Chain Lube.
