Damascus Mnandi through the years

How many of us know, Modern Damascus is made from several types of steel and iron slices welded together to form a billet, and currently the term "damascus" (although technically incorrect) is widely accepted to describe modern pattern welded steel blades in the trade. The patterns vary depending on how the smith works the billet. The billet is drawn out and folded until the desired number of layers are formed. In order to attain a Master Smith rating with the American Bladesmith Society that Moran founded, the smith must forge a damascus blade with a minimum of 300 layers. (Source Wikipedia)

The Damascus blades of knives collect love or hate depending on personal tastes but no one, I think, can deny how fascinating they are.

Chris Reeve Knives could not fail to provide the damascus versions of its beautiful knives, they used, during the years, both High Carbon Damascus (untill 2009) and Stainless Damascus.

Note that Raindrop and Ladder have been available in both high carbon and stainless. They did offer color (blue and gold) on both of these patterns in the high carbon blades but I didn’t see so far in Mnandi blade so if someone wants to fill this gap in my knowledge he is welcome.

The only blades on Mnandi that I see colored are the zebra and sharktooth damascus.

This post will show only blades on the Mnandi model… Perhaps some of you know that I love the little gentleman knife.

Thank you for your patience

Thank you for your efforts! Both in pulling together such an extensive collection and doing such a fantastic job of documenting and sharing it.

As for that awesome sharktooth....I missed it as well. I remember bidding on an auction site against somebody late one evening. I gave up early, and Lisantica ended up getting it at a steal of a price.

Great pics, thank you!

Here's my 2009 Ladder that you were interested in.

I wanted to cross-link this thread with my Mnandis Through The Years - A History in Pics. This thread take the idea and expands it to a study in the different and exotic damascus' that CRK has use through the years, where my thread takes you through the design changed from prototypes to very current production.
