Damascus MOD mkII?

Picked up a Damascus MOD MkII auto from E-Bay a couple of years ago for an EDC but realized it was way too nice for that. It's been a $400 letter opener ever since. I've been looking for some kind of history on it but have only seen a couple ads stating "Only 50 Available"...Does this mean MOD only made 50 or the dealer bought 50 to sell?
When I bought it they were priced anywhere from $400 to $750 and I've only seen a couple recently for $500-600.
Is this knife really that rare or is it just how they get top dollor for them?
Mine has a "23" at the base of the blade.
If anybody has a story about them or MOD I'd love to hear it.

I have seen the damascus MkII's pretty cheap. I dont know why they didnt sell well but they stayed up on knife sites for a while. It's a nice knife but I wouldnt be scared to edc it. I dont think it will go up to much in value. The Mk series just isnt in demmand from collectors. You might be able to sell it for what you paid or maybe a little more but if you like it, use it. A Marfione custom would be a different story but a damasteel production auto isnt going to go up in value enough to stop me from using it. A great knife I'm shure but dont forget its a knife! Get to deanimating something.
