Damascus Oil Stains

Can anyone tell me what exactly is an "Oil Stain" on a damascus blade?
I see knives for sale with this disclaimer and can find no info on the net.
Exactly when do these occur?
Are these a result of quenching in an improper medium (i.e. used motor oil that's way too dirty) or is this a result of improper storage?
Could these actually be misidentified rust stains?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
Thanks!!!

An oil stain would properly be dried up oil.
That said, if you are talking about cheap damascus, it could be anything.
If it is quenched in motor oil-clean or dirty, it will be substandard. Motor oil is not a proper quenchant.
Yes, it could be rust stains.

Thanks Bill..!!!
So I gather then, that oil stains are not some inherent danger in the damascus process, such as cracks or delams or the like?
That clears up my concern and confusion!!!
I appreciate the information and your time!!!
Thanks again!!!
