Here is a project that has taken me about one year to finish - and will take some more time, by the way.

isdam1.jpg

It was made of stunning gun barrel pattern (it imitates the patterns seen in the old shotgun barrels) damascus by Damasteel and has a bexley medium 18kt nib.
This week I intend to blacken it and have the sterling silver clip/cap top and barrel bottom made by a friend jeweler, then send it for some light engraving on the ss parts.Let me know what you think.

She's a real beauty. Awesome craftmanship. Have you considered making a rollerball?

Looks good, It is nice to see others making pens too. I started making them for Christmas presents for non knife people. I make them out of my own damascus and mokume.

Nice work!

I wonder if the engraving will show up well with the damascus.I would call that damascus a moire' pattern, very delicate, very nice. You have to make more than one per year !!

Way to go Ivan, that's beautiful! Check out Sean's pens sometime too, they're great.

Thanks for sharing,

IG: no need for the O ring - I´ll just glue everyhing in place and also put a few drops on the nib to be sure - noboby is gonne wirte with it, anyway, right?

AJ: yes, I am considering making rollers. I am thinking about using Parker rollerball refils - any suggestions?

Sean: thanks for the tips, but I ended up making my own parts instead of buying them from suppliers as you suggested back when I started my research, except for the nib, of course.

Mete: The engraving will be very light and only on the sterling silver parts. It will have my mark, pen number and dtata and some decorative cuts only.

dave: sean was who I contacted back when I first started my research on custom pnes, about one year ago.

Pens are fun and I wish I had more time and money to make more. I still have enough damascus for one, so lets see what it will end up like in the next months.

I should explain that as a matter of fact, I have not turned this pen. What I am doing is to coordinate the work of the various artisans (a jeweler, an engraver and a lathe turner, so far) involved in the project and taking care of the finish and assembly of the parts.
Eventually, I may get a little lathe and start turning my own parts but for now I have a very experient craftsman doing the job for me.

Even so, it is beutifull! Outstanding work, looks like something Bill Gates or Donald Trump would use. :p

I think the guys are more prone to use one with a gold/platinum mokume pen, with diamonds set on top and bottm, Will, and not humble steel stuff from the hands of a knifemaker...
