Damascus question.

Recently I received my first Damascus knife. My question is about the "void" in the pictures. Is this a by product of the Damascus making process or a blemish? And will it get worse or cause any problems? It's recessed like a crack in a piece of wood. I plan to use this one.

It shouldn't be a problem, it just happens on occasion due to the manufacturering process.......
