Damascus question

Hello all. I am not a knifemaker, but am looking to see if there is such a thing as cylindrical damascus, say 5/8". I figured if anyone would know if my question is completely completely off the wall, it would be a bunch of knife makers. So, if my question is idiotic, please feel free to let me know

I guess you never saw a damascus gun barrel ! Some even had the company name or logo in the design !!

Round dimensions

The roundbars comes with different types of patterns in the cross section. The Paralell and Bluetounge roundbars can also be twisted.

Bruce, I would like the pattern on the sides. It looks like they offer a twisted rod, which would give me patterns on the side, no?

George, I don't know if you noticed, but the damasteel is stainless.....
may make no nevermind to you, but thought I'd mention that.

Yes twisted rod is about the easiest, most anything else will be time consuming and expensive but anything is possible depending on your pockets (deep or shallow) May I ask what you are making?

Hey Mete,

I've made some damascus gun barrels, loads of fun slightly different concept though, I'd rather make rods than barrels anyday.

I always liked welding wrought iron skelps up for barrels though, just plain fun, the problem with the damascus barrels was always keeping the pattern from deforming when I welded it up, especially on the finer patterns, like "roses and rings" :barf: ruined so much steel! with the iron, it wasn't an issue.

All twist pattern damascus was round at one time.Ask the maker to send you the round bar.You should be able to get any reasonable size in twist.The canister damascus guys make it with the pattern on the ends.
