Damascus question

I'm considering a snakewood and Damascus krib there are pictures in the trade section is made of a thin stock of random patterned stamped Damascus I assume it has small incursions into the surface of the blade irregularities in the Damascus is that very unusual it will mostly be a display piece that I would like to think it is perfectly functional as well. I don't know the maker I'm not sure the seller does either.
