I have some questions about the Damascus steel Chris Reeve Knives uses in their Sebenza. What type of Devin Thomas Damascus is the B & W Reptilian? Is it ‘All Stainless’ with AEB - L and 304, ‘Hi Contrast’ with 1095 and Nickel, or ‘Double High Carbon’ with 1084 & 15 - N - 20 (2% Nickel high carbon steel). How does it compare with the CPM S30V in cutting, edge holding, sharpness, toughness, etc.? I guess what I’m asking is whether the Damascus is practical for everyday use or is it mostly for show? Thanks guys!

Excellent question. I was meaning to ask the exact same thing myself. If damascus is not ideal as a user then I will have to seriously re-consider my order from CRK.

I'm pretty sure the Reptillian pattern is an all carbon/nickel Damascus. The only patterns I'm aware of that are "stainless Damascus" are raindrop, latter, and spirograph. I currently have and use a large Sebenza with the SS Raindrop pattern. I holds an incredible edge! Any of the Damascus patterns offered by Chris Reeve, be it high carbon or stainless, should work fine for an EDC and user steel. Some of his Damascus is offered colors of bronze and blue. I think Chris recommends these to be for show only as acidic objects such as fingerprints and fruit can fade the colors.

As stated previously, I carry and use my SS Damascus bladed Sebenza and it still looks brand new!

Damascus is considered a viable steel for a user, but the stainless Damascus is especially nice. I have a Stainless Damascus Owyhee Hunter that Scott Cook did for me to match my carbon steel Sebenza that I have attached as a jpg. The Stainless is not quite as nicely contrasting but it is still a good looking set up. The biggest downfall to the regular Damascus is the negative impact that things like oranges and blood have on the steel if it is left sitting on the blade.

How is Flitz on stainless damascus?

Will it damage it cosmetically in anyway or will it do pretty much the same job it does on normal stainless steels?
