I was wondering is there any performance advantages to different types of Damascus steel blades. Pattern welded, mosaic, wire or cable. Do any of these types offer a performance advantage over the others I've mentioned or any other type's or styles out there. I was just wondering. the application would be in a Bowie slash Fighter. Thanks
 
Depends what maker you talk to. There are some makers that swear their damascus is better than their monosteel and others that say no way.

Damascus can have a toughness advantage over some monosteel and if etched or blued also resists corrosion better than monosteel. All else being equal, that may be enough reason to use damascus.

Some patterns just simply look darn good too. I admire the skill required to make it right, thats for sure.
