Hey Guys! greetings to one and all (em new here) :)
SO, i am totally new to the world of knives and i recently bought this so called "damascus blank blade" off ebay (my first knife blade)

Although the looks are very attractive, i highly doubt this is even something "close" to being a damascus considering the uber liberal price tag!

take a look at the following link, thatz exactly what i bought:

(( please do not post links to live auctions ))

is that real (or sumthing close)?? (if yes,em going for a few more)
not real (piece of junk steel for $9 ) ?? oohk em gonna work hard to get that person kicked out! :p:D

Thanks guys! :)

I would suggest not posting active auctions..I'm pretty sure that's a no no here...

thanks screwdriver!i guess i had a good deal...but u see that guy'z got a -ve feed claiming it to be a piece of junk! :P

@ono : sorry mate! i'll keep that in mind henceforth!

It may be Damascus steel, but that's no guarantee of quality, since there's a lot of other factors (heat treat coming to mind). It does look pretty, although Damascus is supposed to be pattern welded, and the patterning doesn't extend the length of the blade. I don't know whether that's common or not. There are a lot of unscrupulous sellers who sell Damascus-like blades, which have Damascus patterning basically painted on. But hey, it's 9 dollars. Even if you get what you pay for, you can still have a fun project to make a really pretty knife that people will remark on if you do a good job with the handle slabs.
