This is a small gent's carry bowie or hideout fighter. It's slim and light and relatively short. Easy to carry. It's fairly stout but has sharp distal taper ending in a nice sharp point.

Specs:

Forged from my own 1084 and 15n20 damascus
9 1/2" overall, 4 3/4" blade, .200" thick at the ricasso
Clip is just shy of sharp
Fittings are German Silver
All the edges of the guard have been rounded so there's no sharp edges
Rare and beautiful Camatillo Rosewood handle that is NOT a broom handle ;). It has more contour than I can show with these pics.
German silver finial.

I have mixed feelings about the finial and might make something else for it. I thought if this was a 'fighter' the pointed finial might be a good skull crusher.

Feel free to post all comments and opinions. :)

Here's a couple quick shots of the new finial. Do you guys like this one better? I think I do. It does seat a little farther in the handle. I don't have it screwed down tight.

I'm with ya on the finial. Not keen on it, but the rest of the knife kicks ass.

Real nice! I like everything about it.... :)

It'd make for a nice, domed 'crusher....doesn't need to be too pointy to get a message across.....then the other end will work well.

That is one elegant little knife. Love the Damascus and how the Rosewood continues the pattern. Neat!

The more you look, the better you can see how all the details add and repeat.

( I'm with you on thinking it needs a more elegant finial, though, to match the rest of a very smooth knife.)

Great design and great execution, John. I agree I'm not too wild on the finial, but the rest of the knife is excellent!

I like that a lot. very classy. I think the skull crusher would look better with the tip knocked back to remove the hole........just to make it a truncated cone. It's not bad as is, but I'd probably whack my dang elbow on it while it's in the sheath on the hip.:D
Really pretty wood and Damascus, and the style is easy to identify as yours right away.

I agree with JW as the knife is most cool. Maybe do a finial with a repeat of the pattern in the bolster and how you did it in the handle. Things is triples is very good artistically.

Nice work. Meticulous as always and like John said, I really like how the lines flow from the blade through the grain of the wood.

Thanks for all of your input and comments guys. Glad to know my instincts are not too far off from most of yours. :)

I made a new finial this morning and added the pics to my original post above. I think it's a better fit for the knife.

Thanks again.

Murray, thanks for the comment. I really like this idea and I did try it. I kind of ran out of room on this one and had to alter it a little but It gave me an idea to try next time.

John,
That is a very nice tight Damascus pattern there. And as John W said, it really flows nicely into the grain of the handle.
I also prefer the new finial you've done.
My preference for that is two-fold: artistically, I think it is much more elegant on this style knife; and practically, I have two knives that have similar finials, and I have sheaths that have flaps that drop over the top of the butt of the knife with a slot for the finial. This makes, I think, for a very elegant and secure method of carrying this style knife...

Man you're good John! :)

FWIW- I think the new finial is a major improvement for the overall look/feel of the knife.

Yup, I like the new one better as well.
Darcy:)

Thanks again guys. I really appreciate it.
