Damascus Rust?

I just got a Custom in the mail... one of the scales is made of Damascus. After 1 night I noticed a BUNCH of little brown spots all over the scale. Does Damascus Rust? Will they come off? What do I do?

If it is carbon steel it will rust. Most Damascus is. Try some Flitz polish on it. It's a bummer when this happens to Damascus because it's really hard to clean it and keep the original finish.

Yup... once you start polishing the damascus you will be polishing both the dark and light steels together and they will both turn more siliver, you will lose the contrast. But it's really not that hard to re-etch the blade at all...
