Hey Guys, I have owned quite a few Sebenzas over the years, but I finally decided to get a Damascus 21. I just received it today, and I love it.

The person I traded for it, stated it was new and unused. It looks pristine, but it has a mirror polished edge. I emailed the person and he told me that he thought it came from the factory this way. I was unsure so I thought I would ask.

Thanks in advance

The edge is polished and this is perfectly normal. If you look at any pics of damascus sebenzas, you will see this is the norm, no matter what pattern it is. The blades are etched to bring out the layers of the damascus, not sure what they use, but I am assuming an acid etch of some sort. Then when the edge is sharpened, there is of course no etching or anodizing there, so thats the reason. I have wondered that myself in the beginning. I have read where several people sent them in to get re-etched years later after heavy use because it was slightly faded in spots, so thats why I used the 'etched' word.

I got a small 21 Bocote / Ladder Damascus in the mail today its edge is polished as well.

Thanks for the response, Yeah I have re-etched some of my damascus blades before, and always had to sharpen them back up afterwards. I just wanted to make sure this $500 knife I had just received wasn't already sharpened. Hell its probably going to kick my 2007 Mammoth annual out of my pocket, so I'll have to sharpen it anyways, but its the principle of the matter.

It would have to be truly special to kick out any annual, especially a mammoth annual from your pocket.

All my CRK's are special, but I am getting a little tired of babying my annual. I've managed to carry it for the past few months in a pouch and not do to much damage. Then again I've always carried a backup blade for harder work. With how much money I put into my 07, I think i'd kill myself if I scratched it up to badly.

All the mammoth annuals are expensive. I see what a plain wood one goes for now a days and I cringe at the thought of seeing a mammoth annual. To add damascus to it would even more. Those are grails for sure. Any annual is a grail. But they are nice to use I am sure, just not as heavily as you would a plain sebbie.
