Damascus steel care

Ok! Finally, i've got one of those beauties! All i've got before was SS steel. How would i take care of this knife? It's Olamic cutlery birch model, with the fixed blade. Thanks!
 
What conditions will you subject it to? For carbon steel blades I just keep em clean, but a light coating of mineral oil wouldn't be a bad idea every now and then.

I'd venture to guess that most damascus blades don't see much use. Treat it like regular carbon and I'd bet it will be fine. If it ever gets really gnarly you will be able to re-etch it with ferric chloride acid although I've never had to.

A lot of guys will probably beat me down for this, but I use my gun rags to clean my carbon and damascus blades (not my kitchen blades, those are indeed mineral oil.)

There is a product called "rust prufe" you can get from most local gun shops that really, really does the job. Leaves a very thin film, and after a day, you won't even notice the film. I live in Florida, so my steels see some wickedly awful conditions for corrosion. My truck gun rusted the first day i left it overnight, but ever since rust prufe once every couple months, nothing.

Comes already applied to a rag, and comes in a cute little jar. Smells heavenly.
 
I live very close to the ocean and I've always used the TufCloth and TufGlide on my knives and guns and ive never had one rust. I really like that it dries quickly and once dry you can buff off any excess and it doesn't leave a sticky or oily residue.
