I ordered the Damascus Kershaw Skyline yesterday and I was wondering, what are the benefits of having damascus steel instead of a different steel like Sandvik 14C28N. Also what is the quality of Kershaw's damascus? I'm not to familiar with steels so sorry if I sound kind of stupid. Thanks.

Best description of it I have heard thus far, but I can't verify it as I haven't beaten up my own Damascus Skyline yet and put it through it's paces.

Only having experience with the Kershaw Damascus I'll say it sharpens super easily. Sort of like Case CV. It takes a sharp edge too ( has 52100 & 5160 in there right?). Wear resistance is not in the 154cm/VG10 class but more in the 1095 class. It rusts fairly easy if not cared for.

I like it but don't find any advantages in it other than looks.

Beyond that I've only heard good things about this damascus steel, just keep in mind it is made out of various carbon steels and will rust if you let it. Beyond that it's pretty.

It looks weird but some people think that it is worth paying 40% more for a blade made that way.
