I have a question about buying Damascus. I know some of you guys make damascus and sell the bars to people. What kind of prices do most of you charge compared to what you can buy from a web store? I would like steel ranging from 12" X 1/8" to 30" X 1/4", Something good for swords. I can't buy anything right now but I want to make some plans that way I can prepare for it and when the time is right I'll have all my eggs in the basket. I there a major difference between the quality of steel between store bought and custome made? Thanks.

I havent seen a damascus store. Personally I would stay away from the imported cheap stuff. I particually dont like "ThunderForged" as it doesnt heat-treat well in long sizes (my experience). I make damsacus but dont sell it very often as its too damn timeconsuming to make. Our own Bruce Evansmakes the best for dollar. Email him and see what he can do for Ya.

You may want to try Damasteel stainless damascus. It's made out of powder steels and it's about the best SS damascus you can get today.
It basically means you can ahve a blade tempered to 65 HRC as tough as a traditional steel blade tempered to 58 HRC :)
