Caspian is probably is the most famous manufacturer of damascus M1911 slides, they have always been respected and lusted after. I have never heard of any quality or safety issues with them.

I shoot shotguns with damascus barrels, the slide of an 1911 would be every bit as safe. Damascus in guns got a bad rep simply because poor quality steel was used in cheap guns. Damascus steel proper forged is very strong but sadly the quality of the steel used in some of the old shotguns, particularly some of the name rip off guns that came out of Belgium, was very shoddy and made people wary of the steel. The damascus steel in my Parker VH is very high quality and so is the steel used in the 1911 slides. Todays makers know what they are doing and will stand behind their products, if you like it and want one then buy it with confidence.
