I love the look of the Damascus Steel blades. I only have one, a 110 with Ram's Horn scales (that I brought from a fellow Bladeforum Buck nut :) ) and it is absolutely jewelery. I carry it when I want to be dressed up, and it always gets admiring glances and envious stares when I whip it out for steak cutting or other culinary duties at the festive board. Howsumever, leaving the looks and cost aside, what is its value as a blade as compared to other Buck steels. Is it stronger or weaker, sharpening qualities, etc. I really don't care about any of the non Buck steels, as I have pretty well weeded non Bucks out. Any opinions will be valued highly. If Buck expans its use, I'd sure like some more for EDC.

Jerry,

I'm surprised noone has taken a shot at your question, so here is my take on it for what its worth...depends on whether its SS damascus or tool steel. I think damascus has a toothy edge that some really like ie sharpens really well. Other than the pretty factor I don't think it matters...but I just don't know for sure. The general forum is likely a good spot for this question.

i have not EDC'ed stainless damascus
i think goose and some others have
OC has used carbon damascus in the field in the afgan badlands so we could ask for a report from him
i used carbon damascuss some ...
I LOVE IT! gets sharper then most stainless and
toothy as my esteemed friend says

but it will rust..
you will need to clean and wax or oil the blade for longer then a few days storage..
but i can tell you from cutting my self that it is extremely sharp!

I have honestly never used damascus...just ornamental. I am interested in the answers you get here. I do know that anything other then veggie oil would bother me when eating my steak...hah
