All,
I am new on here, so hope this question is ok to ask.
I'm from England and my brother in law and I make a few custom knives. He is the Mester and I do some of the donkey work - I am learning slowly. We've made knives from 01 tool steel and RWL 34. We've also used Damascus steel a few times, including Damasteel, Alabama Damascus and Thunderforge.
Unfortunately it is getting harder to buy decent damascus steel at sensible prices over here. Not much is made in the UK. The Scandinavian stuff is great, but very expensive.
There seem to be some very good makers in the US. I have seen the web site for Two Finger knives and I know they sell billets. I understand that there is another maker near to Two Fingers, but can't find a website.
I was wondering if you could reccommend some of the less well know (or less well marketed) US damascus makers to me. We don't buy steel in huge quantities so we can't deal direct with the really big makers. We use maybe three or four metres per year.
I'd be very grateful for your advice and if anyone has any queries about UK knife making or makers I'll do my best to answer.
Cheers,
Bob
