James, Dennis these are terrific pics. My small sebby is on its way over but here i am making plans for the umfaan. If you guys don't stop posting these terrific pics, I'm gonna get one, then peddle pencils on the street or starve to death

My experience with it is solely through photos, but I honestly don't know what everyone sees in Damascus steel. It certainly displays the extraordinary skill of the forger, but the result is usually something like bad 60s pop art.
 
It's all in the eye of the beholder, I guess. It's the same reason that some folks like the color puce and raw oysters.

The shapes and patterns just fit the channels in our mind.

If it flips your burger, fine. If not, well, not everyone's a fan. That's why there are so many different things out there.

No use trying to explain it....it just is.
