Evidently in Blade (sept). Jd smith had a cd(or dvd) on damscus patters, there nomenclature, and development. Any one here have this? Any recommendations? Can he be found on the Net?

I spoke with JD Smith on the phone a few minutes ago. He stated that the cd's are not yet available, and he is shooting for a delivery some time in October for the first of this 2-cd set. He stated that it will be an approach to damascus making that will develop a lexicon and description of the processes that will help enable us to understand the process and also be able to discuss it in a more technical manner, discussing things such as primary, secondary, and tertiary distortions, etc. Examples and demonstrations will be included.

Cost for the first cd will be $100. He is compiling a database of names to contact when production is imminent, as deposits will be required. His phone has been ringing off the hook incessantly since this article was published perhaps a month or so earlier than he'd anticipated...

His contact info is as follows:

JD Smith
516 E. Second Street No. 38

Thanks to all will support this project. It is a unique offering and will prove itself useful in the extreme.

You're welcome JD. Blade didn't publish an email addy. Hopefully the email address will make life a bit easier for the next couple days as people get their Blade.

Good luck with the fruition of this endeavor. I'm certain it will create a lot of buzz in the knife community!

Thanks guys, the response has been huge to say the least. Around Sept.1 I will be asking for a deposit of $50. for the special introductory price of $100. for the first of two cd's the next will be $125, to be released a couple of months later. The material covered is encyclpedic in scope so get ready. You want in? E-mail me and send me all your contact info and we'll get back to you soon to confirm.

So Jd. Will it be a cd to view on the computer, if so will it be Mac friendly?
Or will it be a DVD to play on the tely?

I was fortunate enough to see a very small portion of this project evolve first hand. All I can say is that even what little I saw will be putting most people way ahead of the curve. Tons of good information, clearly presented and demonstrated.

I can also tell you this has been in the works for a couple of years now. J.D. has not simply slapped something together here. Rather, he has been planning, designing, filming and editing this project and taking as much time as is necessary to ensure that it is state of the art. Anyone who has seen the products of his bladesmithing will immediately understand what I mean. It is no exaggeration to say that anyone serious about pattern welded steel, and serious about their own time, cannot affort not to have this.

Glad to see it coming together.
