damascus user or safe queen?

Carry it! Why spend the money for something you truly like and not truely get to enjoy it. Or you can collect and hord. You'll be happy either way.

I hope you at least have another plain one to use.

Carry it!! It is a beautiful knife. But, it is your knife. Did you buy it for collection purposes or was your intent to use it?

I bought the damascus for its beauty. I have a mnandi, small regular seb and large wood inlay classic for use. I also have a large unique night sky raindrop damascus being delivered by fedex elf today from tnk. I do carry my small damascus but haven't used it yet. I'm just hooked on damascus sebs.

I am going to lightly say use it. I had a damascus sebbie then traded it because I didnt use it. You should go ahead and use and....just get it over with. However if you feel that you just cant bare it, give it to me and I'll use it...its my christmas present to you . But seriously whatever you decide will be right cuz its your knife and your money.

If this is a new Sebenza, the blade has probably been clear coated to protect the etching and prevent any oxidation. So use it with confidence! I have several that I rotate, including a couple Mnandi's.

I'm probably the outlier on this subject. The damascus blades can do well in use; however, S30V is the superior using material. That being said, I tend to value the damascus blades more for their cosmetics. Using can not improve, and potential could degrade the cosmetics. For that reason, I tend to use my S30V/BG42/ATS34 blades and leave my damascus blades for admiring.

Now, if not using your sebenza in any way deprives you of having a sebenza to use, that's not a good alternative!!! Use ANY sebenza with confidence!

I agree with Fooj. Buy damascus for collecting purposes and S30V for using.
