Damascus vs Non-Damascus

OK guys, here goes the age old question: Does usage of Damascus Steel give equal, Less than, or Better than performance compared to Non-Damascus steel of the same basic type. In other words, if two knives were made identically in every fascet, One being a solid forged blade of 1080 and the other being a Damascus blade of 1080/15N20; With grinds, heat treat and the lot being optimal for each, Which would give better performace? Would there be a performance difference? Would it be noticable?
