Damascus vs Rust

I just bought a Damascus Zing but I'm not sure I want to keep it. It's beautiful and works great, but my concern is that the Damascus is prone to rusting. Can rusting on a blade of this sort be reliably prevented? If so I'm keeping this bad boy.

How often should one apply it, and is it wise to use a damascus blade to cut food? I'm concerned with oil contamination..

edit: A few of the sites I saw selling this knife said the damascus offers good rust resistance, but other sites conflicted.

I have a Damascus drop point style hunter that has some rust because I did not take precautions. Good for you to do the reseach before you have an issue.

My stainless damascus knives require much less attention (maintenance) than my Carbon damascus knives. U.S.P. mineral oil is safe for food work.

Hey EpicFail, welcome on the bladeforums!

A lot depends on the steels used to forge the damascus. Are any of the steels used not stainless? If so, rust is more likely. But just as likely as any other non stainless knife can rust.
Take normal care of your knives and rust should not be a problem.
Wash them after contact with aggressive media and dry them off after washing.
You could use a minerail oil to inhibit rust, you also won't have any trouble with oil contamination then.
