I am considering getting a large Micarta Sebenza in Damascus. What can I expect out of the Damascus as far as performance and long term beauty? I am not typically too hard on my Sebenzas so I am not too concerned that I will damage it. I am mostly worried about possibly blunting the tip or scratching the blade somehow.
What are your opinions of the different Damascus designs available for CRK's? At the moment Raindrop and Spirograph are available.

I would love to get a Seb in Spriograph Damascus. As far as performance, I would expect it to be on-par with CRK's S30V and you'd be able to scratch the surface as you would any other blade. Oh how I would love to have a Damasus Seb!

ETA: Make sure to post some pics for us to drool over when you get one :D.

I have a damascus mnandi that I have used heavily for things that would be better suited for a umnumzaan. The blade has no blemishes and looks mint. Its very tough and holds a great edge. It has Devin Thomas Stainless Steel Damascus. I hightly recommend his damascus and one day hope to get a large sebenza with damascus as well, I like it that much.

The only problem(well, to me anyway), with Damascus is that if you do get it all scratched from heavy use up you can't just sand it like a regular balde to make it look good again. You will have to send it to get another acid etch if you sand the scratches out.

I guess thats not really a problem though, and would think CRK would do it for about the same price as retumbling your blade. But I really have no idea what they would charge for that.

I'll be making a video soon of some in action! :D

It's a great steel for use!
(as long as it's NOT coated)

Just bought a raindrop damascus sebbie and was wondering the same thing!

I've had a Damascus blade on my small Sebbie for almost a year now as my EDC. They spray the blades with one of the gun-coat products; I asked for a matte finish with as light an etch as possible.

The blade shows polish on the coating especially towards the tip but that is all the wear I can see.

Of course, you can scratch the blade like anything else and that would probably require a refinish by CRK if desired.

I have no complaints about the blade in terms of sharpness or durability (hey, it's a folder, not some great hunk of a wilderness knife!). I spent a day slicing foam core board and all it needed that night was a little touch up and some stropping and it was as good as new.

Please bear one thing in mind........

There are few people out there that have Chris Reeve's knowledge of blade material science.
He would never use ANY steel on his knives that he had not exhaustively tested personally and was completely confident in.

If he has chosen to use Devin Thomas Damascus that right there says a great deal about the steel.

Worry not.........buy it, use it, enjoy it with confidence...........

Hey,

Did you purchase that from new graham knives? Is it the large raindrop damascus sebenza? If so you are me new enemy, I had that on my radar and it was in stock until the day I received my funds from some other knife sales, then it just so happens to miraculously be out of stock that day, actually happened in front of my eyes .... lol, JK. You are not my enemy but you got my knife, if it was the new graham one . Can you take a full picture of the knife with handle and all? New Grahams pictures aren't all that, and the pics you took are wonderful.
