How does stainless Damascus hold up wear and tear wise? Does it scratch easy or get discolored? I'm getting I plan on using a damascus blade but not if it's going to ruin it. Anyone have any pics of beat up Damascus?

I have one, a custom Wallace w/Indian stag handle. Ashamed to say it's a safe queen, it's way to pretty to use and I have to many others to beat up.

Damascus is composed of different types of steel, and the individual characteristics of each component (layer of steel) will affect how easily it wears. There is no single formula for damascus.

What maker knife are you considering?

It's going to be a dark Devin Thomas stainless Damascus with the ladder design. Large Sebenza 21 with micarta inlays and gold thumb stub. Beaut right :)

I think over time the damascus pattern can wear off and fade, it is possible to re-etch at home though in a semi complex process, if your dedicated you can do it. i dont know much about damascus but ive heard thats the deal

Devin Thomas knows his stuff so dont worry about it.

What he said. I'd go for it.

Personally I have a Greg Lightfoot fixed blade, that has a stainless damascus blade. I've used and sharpened it quite a bit. It's got some dings and scratches that would show up more if it was a satin finish, or certainly a mirror finish blade. The damascus pattern has barely changed.
