damascus weld possible?

I have some new 5160 bars and new 15n20 can they be welded together? Alocal sorta smith said it can`t be done because of cromium content?Is he full of SH!! .Another smith i trust a bit more says i don`t see why not.
can it be done andhow hard is it.
Yesterday i made damascus of O-1 and W1 foldin knife blade 512 layer,would that weld the same as 5160 & 15n20?
any replies are more than welcome and appreciated!

I see no reason why they wouldnt weld nicely. I have made damascus from 1084 and 15n20 for some time now. Its welds good. Bruce
 
I made a jelly roll a couple weeks ago with 5160 and 15n20 maybe it is not suposed to work,, but it did, hope this don't bring no gremlins into the shop.

15n20 has about .70 carbon and I believe 3.5 nickel some what like L6 which has .75 carbon and 1.5 nickel. Just think of 15n20 as a high carbon steel that will weld to any thing you'd probably want to make a knife out of.

Hey you better tell all those guys that are making Stainless steel Damascus, that they are doing the impossible. They might want to know so they could find some other work.

thanx guys i`m gonna try to do it today,
I made a nice little folder out of cable last week. Had cable blade and bolsters thanx 4 askin Mike.
I figured it should work i`m gonna show that guy he doesn`t know every thing like he likes to think.
