On the CR site there is a disclaimer which I'm certain you have all read. My Question is what "exactly" does this mean "The finish on the blue and bronze damascus blades is cosmetic only." It does not react well to blood etc.
The exception to this is apparently damascus which is other then of these two types. ie. B/W
I did a search on Devon Thomas so I might take a
gander at the different types of Damascus but couldn't find him. It would be nice if Mr Reeve had pics of these but the improved site seems even more spartan then the last. I saw a plain Classic with
spiroghaphic damascus on e-bay which I was going to bid on but I don't know if the finish on it is also cosmetic.I suppose I should get my lazy ass up and do some research.

The website is http://www.devinthomas.com
The blued and bronzed damascus CRK knives are really spectacular blades! The damascus blades are brought to a very high level of polish before they are blued or bronzed. You can no longer feel the layers of steel; the level of polish leaves the blade as smooth as glass. It is the extra polishing steps required that I believe is reflected in the higher cost of these pieces.
BW damascus is not impervious, either, and must be appropriately cared for. The darkened steel is simply a thin oxidized layer beneath which is shiny steel. But send her back to CRK for refinishing when the need arises!

here is a raindrop pattern , they seem to take a while to get sometimes. this one is available BTW....

So I cut up an orange and dip my spiro graph damascus blade in a vat of blood. What does my blade look like? Does the blueing come off?
Tallpaul.....would you be a sport and try this with the above knife and let us know what happens.;)
I really like the look of Damascus. There must be a
damascus blade offered by CR that isn't so sensitive to acidic material.I plan on getting a few of these so I'd like to know what I'm letting myself in for prior to forking over the cash.
I also sent Anne a note in ref to the above question,
but thought maybe someone here has had experience
with them.
Cheers!

Jeffrey- sure just bring that bin laden guy over and I will cut up and orange and you can test the blade on em'- heck on the way stop and pick up Cliff Stamp would ya' :D

Jeff:
The blue and bronze damascus are for show. The color will be affected by acids. The black and white damascus can be used but the steel is not stainless and needs to be rinsed off and treated with the RIG (rust inhibiting grease) that CRK includes with all damascus blades. I have a wood inlay with ladder damascus and have cut all types of fruit with it. It still looks great. Blood won't hurt it but it needs to be washed off before it sets and the blade needs to be wiped down. The damascus needs a bit more care than the BG-42 but that is only because it is not stainless.

Tallpaul, you are freaking killing me!!!! First you show me that beautiful large flag Sebenza, and now this. That thing is gorgeous!!! Best looking unique demascus Sebenza I have ever seen. It's shame I cannot afford it. Thank god I cant see it in person $$$:).
