I inherited a couple knives recently, an MCUSTA~

Both are said to be made with damascus steel. On the MCUSTA site it says: "The blades are made from a VG-10 core forged with 33 layered nickel Damascus steel.." I don't doubt it, since on close examination my knife has the exact same pattern as the one on the website. So a robot is making my damascus?? Does it even count as damascus then? In fact, what IS damascus, anyways?
I like the MCUSTA a lot actually but the William Henry is clearly a different damascus. (Maybe pure handmade damascus?) Anyone have good, definitive links on damascus steel?
P.S. Sorry for using the word "damascus" so much.

That Custom is actually not a custom but a High end production folder made by William Henry

As for Damascus.....is Damascus, no matter who makes it. be it a machine or a person.

Actually most damascus nowadays is made with the help of a machine (sometimes just a powerhammer sometimes more than that). Very few makers still swing the actual hammer while making damascus.

Lovely knives. Damascus as refers to the William Henry is pattern welded steel. The steel billet is made of two different steels that will look different after etching, the billet is either folded, cut, stacked, rolled or all those processes and while hot subjected to a hammer, power hammer etc. multiple times in order to achieve the pattern you see. The Mcusta is to my understanding a san mai blade where a very hard inner core is clad in often softer steels. This is said to provide a blade with a very hard and durable edge that is supported by a not as hard but tougher exterior cladding. All these are to the best of my knowledge, I am sure they are defined more precisely on this site and a quick search will find them or use any search engine, they are easily found terms.
