Very nice, sir! Do you know what the composition of that Damasteel is? I recall their modern gun barrel carbon steel is a mix of 4140 and 4141 as it should be, but I can't recall what they use for their stainless blade steel.

What do you etch your Damasteel in, if you don't mind me asking? It looks REALLY nice. I've got a teeny necker, almost ready for etching and it's Damasteel. I want it to end up looking like that. ;) :)

Im really pleased with the way this knife turned out! Thanks guys for the comments and checking out the thread!

Danbo, I tried to etch this first with Ferric. and it laughed out loud at the ferric chloride! So I went to the local hardware and picked up some Muriatic Acid. That worked great. But please read and follow the safety precautions on this stuff its much stronger and more dangerous then Ferric.

God Bless

Wow that is a really cool Damasteel pattern and a great looking knife!

I etch all of my damasteel knives in Muriatic, I know one guy who uses Sulfuric acid but I'm sticking with Muriatic.

Sean

Sean. Thanks man..

The Muriatic works great. But is very stinky! lol :)

The pattern is called Borgman twist. (spelling?)

You may have already figured this out but the fumes from Muriatic acid will etch everything they come in contact with (well everything metal). I etch outside when using Muriatic acid and yep the fumes definitely suck.

Sean

Yep. Its some CRAZY stuff! I did my etch right out the back door of the shop. Mainly because I didn't want the fumes in the shop. But now knowing it etches everything around it. Im glad I did!! lol :) Thanks for the info.

Randy

Thanks, Here are the finished photos. With its carry sheath, Im happy with how this one turned out and proud to have this one going to one of our active forum members! I hope he does a full review of how the knife preforms for him in the kitchen after he has had a month or two of using it!! I think its gona be a cutting machine and look forward to some feedback!

Thanks guys for the great comments and looking at our work. :)
