Sharing one of my favorite pieces! Early this year a client gave me full creative control for his custom order. Aside from his requirements (a 215mm western-style chef knife, and an s-grind), he wanted me to go crazy on the handle shape, saya design, and material choice.
I've never done something like this before, and I'm quite pleased with it
let me know what you think!
Specs:
Blade Steel: Damasteel Grosserossen Pattern, Cryo-frozen & 3x tempered to 62HRc
Bevel: S-grind double bevel
Handle: Brass dovetailed bolsters, Stabilized Amboyna burl, *Tapered full tang
Saya scabbard: Stabilized Amboyna burl, Carbon fiber liner, Bronze pins. Albino Carabao horn saya pin
Blade Weight: 190grams
Overall Weigth with saya: 310grams
Close-up on the sculpted handle and some polished stabilized Albino Carabao horn (Philippine water buffalo)
S-grind Close-up
Saya Scabbard in Stabilized Amboyna burl, with a carbon fiber liner. !0 bronze pins + Black dyed JB weld holding the saya together!
Tapered full tang, distal tapered blade
Close-up on the tapered tang, sculpted handle, and brass dovetailed bolsters. This part was so much trouble to etch hahaha.
Thanks for looking, folks!
