Let me start this post by saying that the CRK Sebenza is not my favorite folding knife, but I carry it almost every day. I have owned this knife for maybe about 15 years or more, I am not sure because it just sits in the background all the time and I seldom notice it. I know the knife is always praised for it design and quality construction and then there are some who hate it as well and I have always respected it for being good quality and a solid piece that I can rely on, and that was it.

I usually carry 4 knives. First, I always have a Small Swiss Army Classic on my keychain because it is just plain useful in so many ways, the next most often carried is the Sebenza and I use it a lot, as well, for any utilitarian task I have, opening mail and packages, cutting a cable tie, cutting Gorilla tape, string, etc., etc., then I carry one or two knives that never cut anything and they are usually a ZT0561 and/or a Cold Steel Master Tanto which is customized. Anyway back to the Sebenza.

Over the past few days I started to notice it was a bit more difficult to open than usual and it was annoying me, so today for the first time since I have owned it, (again 15 years or so) I decided to service it / clean it. Unfortunately, I did not take pictures of the process and I am not going back into it so that I can document it. So, I took it apart, wiped off all the parts put the little perforated bronze washers on some 2000 grit sand paper and wiped off the dark corrosion until the shined, which only took a few spins. Then, I put it all back together with a few drops of light oil and some locktite on the screws and tightened it all down.

It only took about 10 minutes and it is working as good as new. Damn it, why is it so simply easy and well made, this thing is is the sh!t. For most intended purposes and it's size and even at it's price it is hard to beat this knife, Thanks CRK.

You really don't appreciate it until you take it apart to clean/lube it for the simplicity.

I just have to ask why is it not your favorite after carrying it for 15 years?

I had to think about this again because I really do like the knife and definitely have respect for the design and construction of it. I think for the tasks that I use it for there may not be anything better, and in that sense / context it could be my favorite. But, then I have a real thing for larger knives like the Hinderer XM-24, the RJ Martin Devastator, CKF Terzuola Eagle Rock and maybe even the Spartan Blades SHF.

In the old days Chris recommended not using sand paper on the washers.
