After thinning out my entire Spyderco collection (Sage 2, Para 2 camo, Persistence, Tenacious, Ladybug) I was looking for a slim edc knife. Nothing wrong with Spyderco's. the Para 2 are awesome at $125. The Persistence is a great knife for $25. but a bit tall open or closed for a small edc knife for me(open packages/letters/small cutting).
Then i bought my 1st Kershaw Leek 1660CKT several weeks ago. What a fantastic choice. I appreciate that the Leek is made in the USA. There is nothing wring with paying less for made elsewhere. But with the harder times in economy, I am willing to pay up and favor American made products that prove to be higher quality.
Yes the blade is thin, delicate, and scalpel sharp. Just how i need my edc blade to be. I don't live and work in rural areas. I am in NYC. no bush-crafting here. The needle tip is great for stripping out all those UPS labels on the box from Amazon so I can re purpose them for my own shipping.
And its just a sexy svelte knife. true gentlemen's folder. I also love the safety lock. If i am wearing a sport coat or suit i can easily carry this in the pocket locked without have to worry about blade retention. the Leek just disappears!
I love the Leek and flipper concept so much that i just ordered 2 more to be pimped out. The 1660G10 S30V for my gf (pimpage = Pink digi camo handle/foliage green blade). And the Random Leek reverse tanto serration S30V for myself (pimpage = Arctic camo handle/black blade).
Because i was so impressed with the Leek/Kershaw quality, i also invested $260 in the ZT 0560 and will review that later once i get some real usage. But i cannot imagine needing to use that for letters/boxes. The 0560 is basically my Ferrari of knives of any i have ever owned. I hope to bring with me on summer hiking/camping trips. I doubt you all need to see another 0560 review cutting paper
