Damned double name stamp!

Spent a decent amount of time in the shop grinding this Warncliffe type blade out of a really old Nicholson file, and then went to stamp my name. Why is it you can never get the damned stamp to make a full stamp the first time? I went to stamp it again, and thought I had it directly on the first stamp, but Noooo! Double die stamp mark. I wonder if this will be worth as much as a coin that was double stamped? :) I believe I just made myself a knife for me. I cant grind the ricasso any thinner, as this one is as thin as possible. This blade was meant to be a slicer, not a heavy duty survival knife.

Uncle Al at Riverside Machine Shop makes a tool called the Riverside Stampmaster. This tool holds the stamp in one place and you can hit it as many times as you like .
The Stampmaster costs $97.50 and Uncle Al's phone number is 870-642-7643. His e-mail is uncleal@ipa.net
I have used a stampmaster for at least ten years. I wouldn't be without one. Tom Lewis

Danbo.
Maybe you could make a small habaki , such as on this D. Fogg tanto , give it somewhat of an Asian aspect.

Danbo, I've had this very problem, and recently, too. So this morning I decided to try to put something I'd been thinking about for a long time into practice.

This is made out of scrap metal laying around in my shop; I had to drill and tap a couple holes, but that's all. The piece of metal laying under my stamp is some O1, just to show how it works. One of the uprights along my stamp is in slotted holes so I can move it to accommodate number stamps, etc.

It keeps the stamp square to the work, and saves my mark from the flinch factor... ;)
