Dan Dennehy

Dan D. passed away Sunday January 16, 2011.
I am pleased to have called Dan my friend. Dan spent a week at my home back in 1996. I had the pleasure of sitting at the table for hours with Dan and George Herron listening to them talk and knives, guns and everything in between. R.I. P. old friend.

Sorry to hear that Mr. Dennehy has passed away. He brought a lot of color to the shows he attended and made custom knives special...as well as special custom knives.

Dan Dennehy was an iconic American knifemaker. It was pictures of his knives in Sid Lathams book that first attracted me to custom knives.

I enjoyed seeing Dan at the Gunsite Reunions at the NRA Whittington Center. He would put on a demonstration of tomahawk throwing and, as part of the evening's entertainment, would deliver "The Lure of the Tropics," a poem he had committed to memory. I posted some pictures of him here:

Bobby glad you got this info. I asked Dan's son-in-law who wrote to me to contact you. I don't know if he was able to contact IKTHF and some of the other knife throwers. If you can maybe Mike Bainton and others would be able to pass on the info via the various Throwers lists etc.

That is sad to hear. Mr. Dennehy was one of the first custom knifemakers that I ever heard of.
