Howdy all! Well, vacation season is upon us and I'm looking for a wallet to get me through this season. I should add that I have a young child (<2) and that kid can MOVE :D !! Light of my life. Unfortunately, I have to worry about her in public places, and don't keep as much of an eye on my wallet as I should. Thus, I thought a Biker-style wallet would be best for my application. Its tied to me, so if the chain moves, I know to pay extra attention to my pocket. Now, I'm used to packing a Hartmann wallet that is about the same size as a Biker wallet, so I'm used to the size.

So, with this in mind I started looking around. For not much more than a lot of other people charge, Dan puts out a rather nice looking biker wallet. Does anyone have any experience with this? Anyone know of another, nice, leather biker-style wallet that won't look too bad? I don't go on vacation much, but when I do I'd rather not worry about getting robbed. Thanks, again!

Sincerely,
Anthony C. Paulin

How much do you HAVE TO carry? There's another thread here on the Mission Wallet, which is an almost half-size item that will hold cards, bills, and change, and has slots out front for a small pen and knife. An old New York custom is to carry a small wallet like this in a front pocket to foil pickpockets.

I'm always interested in carrying less, but part of the problem comes when we go on vacation and I have to carry all the receipts that we get. I like the Mission wallet, though. It seems like a nice bit of kit! I'm a packrat. I collect things. I still clean out my Hartman every month. SO, I'd like to have the room to expand, and thus I'm looking for a high quality, larger wallet- towhich the biker style comes to mind. Thanks for the stuff to think about, though, Esav!

Sincerely,
Anthony

One of the advantages of a big wallet is the convenience of having it all in one place. The disadvantage is losing it all at once if something goes wrong.

From a security viewpoint, I hate the idea of a biker wallet chain telling every thief where my wallet is. When I travel, I keep my wallet in my left front pocket, almost impossible to steal surreptitiously, and my spending money in a smaller wallet in a flapped or buttoned shirt pocket. (I like the Chris Reeve Wallet/Coin purse.) This way, I only show the world a small, unobtrusive "change purse" which is harder to notice and less attractive a target.

If you can restrict your regular carry to a small front pocket wallet, you might find something else for receipts. Maybe for vacations at least one of those lightweight neck wallets?
