You don't see much in the way of new work from Dan Maragni, mainly due to the fact that he's so very picky about the work he does, PLUS he is so very busy too!
Dan is a master bladesmith, he's researched ancient Japanese types of tantos as well as other blades though out history, this one is of the Mino School style of the Nambokucho Period, mid 1300's.
Forged from 1075 high carbon steel, the Shiago Togi final polish was done by Tim Zowada, also a master bladesmith. The Koshirae mounting and braided Tsukamaki, Tsuba and seppa, as well as the Menuki of a Lone Wolf howling at the moon, my uncle's nickname btw, were made by David Schleuter, a Japanese sword expert.
My wife's uncle had commisoned this from Dan, well lets say it's been a while now
And it was worth the wait, obviously!!!
arrived in a nice bag as well, sorry don't know the technical term...
Tough to photograph the nice hamon that is present in the blade, very sweet tanto!!!
He's pretty dang happy with the results, asked me to photograph it so he could send some to the folks that made her up for him.
Thanks for looking !
