Here is a photo of a slipjoint that I just received from Dan Warren of Canton, NC. It is a 3 1/8" blade of 154CM with SS liners, Titanium bolsters and bone handles. It is very stout and walks and talks. I'm sure that it will be a great user.
I met Dan last month at the ABS Intro to Bladesmithing Course taught by J.R. Cook MS and Jerry Fisk MS, as well as Don McIntosh JS and Mike Ruth JS. Dan has been making slipjoints for many years and has recently gotten more interested in forging blades. I just heard from Bill Wiggins JS that Dan and Ron Boydston, another classmate from the Intro Course both passed their JS Perfomance Tests yesterday at the shop of Burt Foster MS. Congradulations to both. Jim Treacy

Jim,
I have had a couple of Dan's knives & the last time I spoke with him he told me of his new added interest into the forged blades.A question,is the titanium bolsters a newer upgrade that Dan is doing ? I was pretty sure the knives I had were of ss bolsters.
I am glad to hear of his JS status.A forged blade slipjoint would be nice, from Dan.Thanks for showing your knife. He hides the back square edge of the blade inside the bolster on your knife & that finger notch in the bolster works well for choking up.You can tell in Dan's knives that he hunts.

Vince,
Dan told me that the bolsters on this knife were Titanium. I don't know how often that he uses them. He isn't a JS yet he has just passed the Performence Test. The Knife Judging is done by the ABS at the Blade Show. I don't think that he will have problems passing that portion due to his skill level. I know that Dan and his friends are definitely hunters and know how a hunting knife should work. Jim Treacy

Thanks Jim,And one other feature on your slipjoint,a subtle thing, but it is designed in.If you look where the spring comes up at the butt of the knife,Dan left it open, easy to flush out goop after field dressing.A lot easier,if it were closed in.
Congrats on the great knife and thanks for the info & showing it,His knives are really well made

Vince,
Dan will be having a demonstration on Pocket Knives at the ABS Great Smoky Mountain Bladesmithing Symposium & Knife Show in Clyde, NC March 14-16, 2008. I'm sure that it will be a great time if you are able to attend. Jim

Besides being a great knife maker, Daniel is a all around good guy. I am really looking foward to his demo at the ABS hammerin.

Jim, looks like you got a great looking knife. Congrats!! Bill
