Right when I want to watch T:V: a large black rectangle appears center screen with the statement http"//>(n:default web site)(e) . It just keeps scrolling over and over . If I change to another channel and switch back it disappears and reappears . This is only on a couple of channels and not all the time . What gives ?

Haven't paid for television for going on ten years. If there's nothing good on PBS, I've got plenty other stuff to do. Do like radio though, especially old classic comedies, mystery theatre and X minus One. Been kept awake on many an all night drive by folks like Art Bell and his successors on Coast to Coast AM. Some of the stuff they get into in the realm of the paranormal is flat out fascinating.
Them cable pukes keep aggravating you Kevin, just tell 'em to take a hike. Don't know what you're paying for service, but one way to look at it is, it probably averages about half a dozen arrows, a good dinner, or a sackful of old butcher knives at the swap meet, et cetera, a month. . . . .every month.

sounds like your settopbox has a web appliance, and you triggered it somehow, perhaps by mashing your remote controls? or someone hacked it and is playing a joke on you, or the cable company screwed up.

the obvious solution would be to power off the box, wait 10 seconds, and then power it up... if not? call the experts who provided it.

Sarge its almost a full set of arrows a month . I have full cable and only pay basic . With that my web access comes through cable as well which almost doubles the price . End of the month its a new world for me .

excellent :)

i found that out myself ages ago, and as i moved around the room, i interuppted the beam, and the tv would change state ;) on/off, channels changing. thought i had a poltergeist :)

it's also a naughty trick to play on someone deliberately :)
