tonight I got a few more knifes to sharpen from my sister and after about the 3rd one, I notice that my grit wheel was not putting as much wax on to the edge like it ususally does. I forget where I read but someone posted if you arn't cleaning your edges/blades after the grit wheel, its time for more wax. I applied more and by the 4th blade, it was taking forever to get a nice burr going so I stopped for the night and decided I might need to regrit this thing. The wheel look like the glue layer might be comming off as it was sorta bubbling in one area. funny thing is that it has only been about 20 or so blades since the last time I regritted it. I remember also reading that people go thru a lot of blades between regritting, about half a year or so for some people before they need to do it again. I also remembered someone telling me to take a wire brush to the wax grit wheel to see what is going on. Apparently there is lots more grit under that wax layer I had so I'm obviously putting on way too much wax or the steel shavings + wax is making a weird layer over the grit wheel which makes it fairly smooth. The bubbling area disappeared after the wire brush treatment so I guess that was a layer of wax which was sorta seperating from the grit underneath or something. I gotta learn how to apply that wax correctly or I'm just gonna drive myself crazy. I have yet to find that big gum eraser thingy to properly clean the grit wheel at my hardware store but the brass wire brush really helped to clean off the old wax. How much wax is suppose to be on the grit wheel. Are you suppose to be able to see the grit on the wheel?

P.S. The edges I have been able to get with this system have been freakishly amazing! God I love these paper wheels.

Maybe more answers if put under Paper Sharpening Wheel Thread.
I believe that the wax should be applied so that it looks like freckles on ones face. The grit should definitely be seen and felt to the touch on the wheel. I also added a little to much in the beginning. Richard told me to use it the way I had it as it will wear off. I don't think that I had as much as you on my wheel. It is a great method to sharpen knives etc.
