So I recently posted a thread looking for recommendations for my first "Traditional" knife purchase. Well, that was the beginning of the end for me. I used to search for nothing but your modern day folders (Strider, CRK, ZT, etc...). But now. Everything has changed. I find myself to keep coming back to wish shopping for my next traditional! Don't get me wrong. I still love my modern day folders, but. Now they have some competition for my wallet! Case and point. I've been carrying my trusty ZT0550 along with my Mudbug at work. I find that recently I've been using the Smith & Sons more than my ZT! So, as stated in the title. Another one has come over to join yall on the "Traditional Porch".

Respectfully,
Shane

Come in a grab a chair, Shane. There's a coffee pot on the stove and bottle under the counter.

There's no going back, you know. Like the song says, you can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave. Why would you want to?

We've got a milk crate ready for you. Soon, you'll be pulling a piece of wood out of your pocket to whittle on, and opening a bottle of Coke with a SAK. Im glad you have made it over. Have you heard of Peanuts yet?:D

I just traded two of my CRK folders, that get carried but not used that often. I've only got two one handers left. One is a Benchmade that has my birthday as the model number, and the other is my first micarta Sebenza. I'm afraid to lose both. I have gone from a couple slipjoints in my pocket, to my damascus nut, Viper and Tribal Spear. I get by more than adequately with the peanut, but I am a knife nut, and carry the other two along. But, again going with the knife nut explanation, I also usually have a SAK somewhere in my truck or on me when I am out on a hike, and sometimes my 15 spear point single blade. Overkill, but I still don't feel like my pants are being dragged down when I had a gigantic framelock in my pocket. If I need anything bigger, I have my Gossman Kephart in my truck. I've found that the peanut, sak and Kephart get used most of the time. I usually opt for my smaller Kephart with a 3" blade, the only one Scott ever made, for many tasks.

I'm not out there in the woods as much as I'd like to, but I try to get out there. I am fighting the urge to trade some knives for some CRKs at the knife shop to replace the ones I just traded to my buddy, BF member Andster2, at his house, but the shop owner told me I'll just trade them again. He said he's got some slipjoints for me, and I'm raring to get out there.

This is why I called my Facebook group Slipjoint Addict.

Hi Shane, Good to have you around these parts. One of the rules is; you have to leave your virtual modern folders in your sock drawer and not carry (post pics) of them in here.

There is one thread where your modern folder, along with the requisite traditional, can be posted, http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/980449-Traditional-and-Modern-pairings.

Welcome to the porch!

Shane, it's good to see you sir! I had a feeling once you grabbed one you liked you would be joining us here.

Welcome.

Now comes the what pattern next or should I try a wharncliffe phase :D

If you still carry a modern and it is a blade shape with belly, try complimenting it with a straight edged knife! The combinations are endless ;)

Welcome

Sorry about that sir! Still learning the ropes on this side. I've made the appropriate corrections to my OP.

Funny you mention that sir! Currently waiting on a Case peanut in pitch black jigged bone to be delivered haha!

Post it in the Cult of the Peanut thread, and drop by my group Cult of the Peanut.

Welcome! I first stumbled in here about 2 years ago, and now have more traditionalis than "modern" folders!

Thanks for the warm welcome guys! I'm sure I'll be in and out of here from here on out. By the way. Thank you again KBA for the outstanding gift! I believe I need to pay credit where it's due sir! Thank you kindly for starting me out right!

I can't blame you for loving that Smith and Sons Mudbug, since it is made by GEC. I was at the factory when they were finishing those up for delivery, which was at the exact same time as they were finishing up the 2014 Bladeforums knives.

I remember admiring them then, and am still drawn to them. I might have to get one.

Plenty of room on the traditional porch and glad to have you here. The Mudbugs are great as are the Peanuts. Now that you have done the hard part and selected a great big one and a itty bitty one all that is left is to fill in the middle. :)

Funny you mention that as well sir! I have a matching Case Russlock in pitch black jigged bone on the way as well haha!

Shane! Welcome but be careful. Traditionals are knives and we are knuts.
I just went back to a modern folder... for now.
Have fun.

Good to have you aboard, Shane. You don't have to be solely a traditionalist to enjoy this place, many of us like both traditional and modern. But very typically, once you dip your toe in the water, so to speak, the moderns have less and less of a hold. Traditionals have just so much variety that they call to all kinds of urges. And naturally, as knife knuts, we give in more often than not. You'll like this place.
